The original Wellingborough Town Football Club was formed in 1867 and is the sixth oldest football club in the country. The club was a founder member of the first professional football league in the country. Wellingborough Town are also the oldest club in Northamptonshire. In 1901-02 they moved to their current ground at the Dog & Duck in London Road. The Dog and Duck has been much improved recently due to the ground share with Rushden and Diamonds. The club has been traditionally known as ‘The Doughboys’ which derived from the traditional local dish of ‘Hock & Dough’. They are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division. There is a small refurbished clubhouse plus a tea and hot food hut.
